Taiwan Protest against nuclear power plant

Taiwan Protest

More than 3,000 Taiwanese people demonstrate against the ongoing construction of the fourth nuclear power plant on the island, Sunday, March 20, 2011, in Taipei, Taiwan. The rally came as Taiwanese were alarmed by neighbor Japan's scramble for control over an ongoing nuclear reactor crisis triggered by a 9.0-magnitude earthquake more than a week ago. Despite the crisis, Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou has said the construction of the new nuclear power plant will continue. Taiwan is prone to earthquakes like Japan, and a 7.6-magnitude earthquake in central part of the island in 1999 killed more than 2,300 people.
